Journey to Courage – Parent Cue October 2019

In a pivotal moment in a movie most dads would probably rather not admit seeing, the Prince of fictional Genovia has this advice for his daughter, the Princess (yes, as in Princess Diaries). On her sixteenth birthday, her father writes these words:

“Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgment that something else is more important than fear. The brave may not live forever, but the cautious do not live at all. From now on you’ll be traveling the road between who you think you are and who you can be. The key is to allow yourself to make the journey.”

Almost every boy and girl dreams of becoming a hero: a prince or princess, or a superhero. We all want to be part of a bigger story, something that matters. To do that doesn’t mean we need to be royalty or part of the Justice League, but it might require that we find some heroic qualities in our everyday lives . . .

Throughout our lives, God may ask us to take risks or do something we may not feel prepared to do. But God will also give us the courage we need to face that challenge. We see this as Jesus faced death on the cross. He chose to be brave and follow through on God’s plan.

Our Bible story for October 6 was EXODUS 2:1-10 –
Moses is Born.

SAY THIS TO CONTINUE THE CONVERSATION:
You can do what you should even when you don’t know what will happen next.

REMEMBER THIS:
“Be strong and brave. Do not be afraid.
Do not lose hope. I am the Lord your God.

First Look Week of October 7, 2019

We all want to be strong and courageous. We all want to say we would be brave when faced with fear. But how? What can help us be brave? How can our preschoolers be strong and courageous Super Kids
without the capes and super powers we see in the movies? This month we plan on giving preschoolers the answers to all of these questions.
We want our preschoolers to grow up knowing that they can be brave because God is with them. How awesome would it be if preschoolers began thinking, ‘God can help me be brave,’ when they are afraid to walk into the dentist office or talk to a new friend at school. Rather than shy away, they can go for it! And, they don’t even
need a cape or a mask!

On Sunday weeones heard the story of Daniel 6:1-23 –
God protects Daniel when he is thrown into a lions’ den for praying to God instead of the king.

REMEMBER THIS:
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid . . .
for the Lord your God goes with you.”

Who can help you be brave?

When you go into your child’s room this month, say, “Good morning! If you’re ready to be strong and courageous, let me see your super kid pose. (Strike a superhero pose.) And who is always with us, helping us be strong and courageous? God is always with us!”

Stretching Faith

Faith is trusting what you can’t see because of what you can. My husband and I have learned over the course of our lives that God will provide in ways we need but don’t often predict. And when we wait on Him, the outcome is better than we can create on our own.

We want our kids to learn this same practice in their own lives. We want them to learn the practical application of trusting in what you can’t see because of what you can.

When we invite our kids to participate with us as we exercise our own faith, we allow them to take part in a story that helps them develop their own faith.

Where is God asking you to trust Him? How is He inviting you to trust what you can’t see because of what you can?

BATH TIME
Add lots of toy plastic animals to bath time. Name the animals. Make the animal sounds together. Line them up and count them. Make them walk, hop, run, etc. along the edge of the tub. Talk about how God made so many amazing animals.
