Parent Cue July 22, 2019 – Write Your Own Narrative

Above all, I want them to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit and let God shape their identity . . . whether that fits in a box or not.

This article from ParentCue.org talks about ‘personality profiles’ like RightPath and Golden Personality Profiler. I admit I haven’t heard of them. But I can also admit I’m guilty of putting my kids in a ‘box’. This post is a great reminder that who are children are is limitless.

Are you familiar with these ‘personality proflies’? What is your love language? I’d love to know! Share in comments below!

WEEK TWO BIBLE STORY FOR WEEONES:
ACTS 12:1-19 –
Peter’s friends faithfully pray for him when he is put in jail for telling people about Jesus.

SAY THIS TO REMIND YOUR CHILD OF SUNDAY’S STORY:
Who gives you the power
to do everything?
Jesus gives me the power to do everything.

DO THIS TO REMIND YOUR CHILD OF SUNDAY’S STORY:
DRIVE TIME
When you get in the car, ask your child, “What gives the car power?” As you drive, continue asking your child what gives things power (radio, cell phone, street lights, anything you see along the way). Tell your child, “When Jesus is our friend, He gives us the power to love people the way He loves us. Jesus gives us the power to do everything!”

REMEMBER THIS:
“I can do everything by the power of Christ.”
Philippians 4:13, NIrV

GOD VIEW: THE CONNECTION BETWEEN THE
FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT AND GOD’S CHARACTER, AS
SHOWN THROUGH GOD’S BIG STORY.

God created us in His image, and He sent His Son, Jesus, to show us the way to live. He also knew we would need help; that’s why He sent us the Holy Spirit. With the power of the Spirit, we can produce fruit that points others to Jesus. Every month, kids discover something about God’s character and how they can reflect or respond to that character because they are created in God’s image. We call those Life Apps. And this summer we’re discovering how several of these Life Apps show up specifically in what the Apostle Paul calls the fruit of the Spirit.

WEEK ONE BIBLE STORY
JAMES 1:17a-
Every Good and Perfect Gift.

SAY THIS TO CONTINUE THE CONVERSATION:
Show God’s goodness to others.

DO THIS TO CONTINUE THE CONVERSATION:
MORNING TIME
Think of something you could do for your child in the morning that would show them a little extra kindness—make a special breakfast, give a special treat in their lunch, or maybe complete one of their chores. They may or may not notice, but be sure to tell them, “Find a way to show someone God’s goodness today!”

REMEMBER THIS:
“God began a good work in you. And I am sure that he will carry it on until it is completed. That will be on the day Christ Jesus returns.”
Philippians 1:6, NIrV

LIFE APP:
LIFE APP—What God is doing in you to change the world around you.

First Look Week of July 8, 2019

This month, we will continue with our Power Up theme as we learn how Jesus gives us the power to love others— and not just the ones who are easy to love. No, this kind of power is what helps us love everyone! This powerful kind of love looks a lot like goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

Our hope is that in the midst of playing games and laughing, connecting with friends and spending time with small group leaders, talking with parents at home and driving down the road, our preschoolers will learn how much Jesus wants to help them be all that God made them to be. Everything that Jesus is—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control—is available to us. All we have to do is plug into the power source and POWER UP!

WEEK ONE BIBLE STORY:
JAMES 1:17-
God has given us so many good things, including His Son, Jesus, and when we follow Jesus He gives us the power to give good things too.

SAY THIS TO REMIND YOUR CHILD OF SUNDAY’S STORY:
Who gives you the power to do everything?
Jesus gives me the power to do everything.

DO THIS TO REMIND YOUR CHILD OF SUNDAY’S STORY:
MORNING TIME
When you go into your child’s room this month, say, “Good morning! Where’s my [child’s name]? There he/she is! It’s time to eat breakfast so we can power up our bodies for the day! But first, who gives us the power to do everything? Jesus gives us the power to do everything!”

REMEMBER THIS:
“I can do everything by the power of Christ.”
Philippians 4:13, NIrV

BASIC TRUTH: JESUS WANTS TO BE MY FRIEND FOREVER.

First Look Week of July 1, 2019

In wee-Worship for week five kids heard Luke 10:25-37 –
A Samaritan man finds a hurt man, and he stopsto care for him.

SAY THIS TO REMIND YOUR CHILD OF SUNDAY’S STORY:
Who gives you the power to do everything?
Jesus gives me the power to do everything.

DO THIS TO REMIND YOUR CHILD OF SUNDAY’S STORY:
CUDDLE TIME
Cuddle with your child and pray, “Dear God, waiting is hard. Waiting at the doctor’s office, waiting in long car rides, waiting for Christmas—all of these things make it hard to be patient. Thank You for sending Jesus to be our friend and give us the power to have patience. I pray [child’s name] and I will trust Jesus to give us the power to be patient. We love You, God. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

REMEMBER THIS:
“I can do everything by the power of Christ.”
Philippians 4:13, NIrV

BASIC TRUTH: JESUS WANTS TO BE MY FRIEND FOREVER.

Week of July 1, 2019

Our Bible story for week 5 in 252 Kids was LUKE 10:25-37 –
The Good Samaritan.

SAY THIS TO CONTINUE THE CONVERSATION:
Be kind to everyone.

DO THIS TO CONTINUE THE CONVERSATION:
MEAL TIME
Together take a minute to make a list of people you know or see sometimes who are different from you. You don’t need to be best friends with all these people, but you can still find ways to be kind. Together, make a new list of ways that you could be kind to the people on the first list, whether it’s a smile, an encouraging word, or stepping up to help.

REMEMBER THIS:
“The fruit the Holy Spirit produces is love, joy and peace. It is being patient,
kind and good. It is being faithful and gentle and having control of oneself.”
Galatians 5:22-23a, NIrV

LIFE APP—

Wee Worship for Week 4 was LUKE 2:22-39 –
Simeon finally gets to see the promised Savior when Jesus’ parents bring Him into the temple courts.

SAY THIS TO REMIND YOUR CHILD OF SUNDAY’S STORY:
Who gives you the power to do everything?
Jesus gives me the power to do everything.

DO THIS TO REMIDN YOUR CHILD OF SUNDAY’S STORY:
BATH TIME
Add a toy man and baby to bath time. Pretend the man is Simeon and the baby is Jesus. Tell your child to put Simeon on the side of the tub where he will wait for Jesus. Count to ten. Then place baby Jesus by Simeon. Repeat, telling your child to count to a different number each time. Talk about how Simeon had to be patient while he waited for Jesus. Jesus gives us the power to be patient too!

REMEMBER THIS:
“I can do everything by the power of Christ.”
Philippians 4:13, NIrV

As you drive around this month, you may find yourself stuck in traffic. At that moment, ask your kid, “What do you do when you have to wait?” Think of ideas on how to pass the time while stuck in traffic.
