Parents and Preteens Retreat

A Special PHASE Event

For Parents and 4th/5th Graders

Working together with the church to share values and shape character gives parents the opportunity to have a bigger influence in the life of their child.

When it comes to sexual integrity - when a child guards his/her potential for intimacy through appropriate boundaries and mutual respect - kids have a lot of different influences and most of them are not the influences we want. Social media, television, movies, friends, all have something to say on the matter. And if parents and the church stay silent, these negative influences will shape our children's sexual integrity.

If the church and parents come together and speak about sexual integrity with kids, if we share with them the same values-centered sex education, we can raise kids who live with sexual integrity.

In preschool, parents will introduce children to their body by naming body parts, acknowledging differences between males and females and defining privacy.

In elementary school, parents will inform children about how things work by giving simple answers to biological questions, talking about boundaries, and improving relational skills.

In high school parents will coach children toward healthy relationships by talking about dating values, creating a response plan for when you find something you aren't expecting, and utilizing other influences like a weekly small group leader.

In middle school, parents will interpret what is changing by answering questions about sex in detail, (If you don't the internet will!) increasing positive affirmation and affection, and agreeing on boundaries and helping them script responses.
