Raising Kids to be Servant-Hearted – Parent Cue Week of February 18, 2019

FUMC wants to encourage children to be servant-hearted. Together, the church and parents can make a bigger influence! We are focusing on service this month with the kids. Join us by giving your child opportunities to help around the house, like helping with dinner or taking out the trash. Make sure to praise them profusely for being a good servant to your family.

Do As I Say Not As I Do

Being intentional in parenting doesn’t come easy. Growing up I heard the ‘do as I say not as I do’ routine from my mother a lot! As a kid, that never cut it for me, and I know my own kids don’t respond to it either. But leading by example takes discipline – and many reminders that my kids may not always be listening, but they are always watching!

First Look Week of January 28, 2019

Our weeones heard the story of Matthew 8: 23-27 in week four of Market Place:
Jesus calms a storm after the disciples wake Him because they are afraid.

DO THIS TO REMIND YOUR CHILD OF THE STORY:
BATH TIME
As you bathe your child, play a game where you give a scenario and your child tells you what is needed in that scenario. Example: You want to build a block tower. What do you need? (blocks) You are hungry. What do you need? (food) You’re walking outside and it starts raining. What do you need? (umbrella) You need someone to be your friend forever. Who do you need? (Jesus)

Week of January 28, 2019

This is the last week of our month learning about self control. In week four we studied: PROVERBS 25:16 –
If you have found honey, eat only enough for you, lest you have your fill of it and vomit it. (ESV)

SAY THIS TO CONTINUE THE CONVERSATION:
Know when to stop.

DO THIS TO CONTINUE THE CONVERSATION:
DRIVE TIME
Ask your child, “What is something you just can’t get enough of?” Then ask, “If you don’t practice self-control in that area, what do you think would happen?” Give your child some tips on how to know when to stop with something they really love.
