It’s always amazed me that many of us have a tendency to communicate least graciously with the people who are closest to us. When you are in close quarters, small irritants often become large issues, and we end up speaking to our family in a way we would never communicate with anyone else. And who are we often most kind toward? Perfect strangers. Go figure.

Ask your kid: “What’s one thing you love about the way God made you?” “Do you want to know what I love?” Share a few things you love about the way that God uniquely made them.

Parent Cue – Helping Kids Come Alive!

As a dad, I want to do what all those supportive people did in my foundational years. I want to identify the things in my kids that they might not even see in themselves. I want to help them discover those things and then learn how to use them in constructive ways. What I really want to know is . . . what makes my kids come alive?

Raising Kids to be Servant-Hearted – Parent Cue Week of February 18, 2019

FUMC wants to encourage children to be servant-hearted. Together, the church and parents can make a bigger influence! We are focusing on service this month with the kids. Join us by giving your child opportunities to help around the house, like helping with dinner or taking out the trash. Make sure to praise them profusely for being a good servant to your family.

Your Cue:

Connect and engage with your children. You set the joyful tone for your kids — you should take this responsibility seriously! When engaging with your child, stop and make eye contact with them, put down your phone, and give them a hug out of the blue. These small ways show your kid that you love them and that you’re attentive to them.
